How to Reduce Your Anxious Thoughts through Meditation
Living in a world that's surrounded by noise, movement, and the hustle and bustle of everyday life, sometimes it's best to just sit in a quiet space, eyes closed, and calm your mind.
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, "Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older."
No matter what you're going through, there's always a way to a better, healthier, happier life! One of the ways to help reduce your anxious thoughts is through meditation.
1. Find a quiet space and sit down comfortably.
2. Set a timer for 5 or 10 minutes and close your eyes.
3. Focus on your breath. What does it feel like? Slow or fast? Deep or flat? Notice how your chest and belly are rising and falling with your breath.
4. Keep experiencing every breath fully, without trying to control it. When you notice your thoughts wandering away, gently bring them back to your breath. Do this until your timer goes off.
Remember, you are not your anxiety. You are brave, capable, beautiful, and strong! This too shall pass.
