Holidays are just around the corner, it can be a stressful time for some
Family parties, Christmas shopping, endless planning, it can all seem like a whirlwind with no time for rest.
You might feel like there's no way to truly relax and enjoy the holidays when you live with a mental illness, but if you make a point to take care of yourself and be intentional with how you feel, you can experience a joy-filled holiday season.
- Don't be afraid to ask for help!
- Communicate to your family and friends how you're feeling and what you need this holiday season.
- Decide which traditions best fit you and your family this year. It's okay to say no!
- Limit the amount of family parties you attend. This one really helps to reduce stress.
- Come up with a plan and stay organized. This helps to lower your expectations and creates boundaries.
- Keep up with self-care and plan time for true rest.
The holidays aren't meant to be stressful, but with all the excitement it's easy to bite off more than you can chew. Take more time for yourself this year and remember that your mental health needs come first. Make this holiday season one to remember (and enjoy)!
